NIGHT SCHOOL COSMETOLOGY Program 1500 Hours
Part-time Program: 14 hours per week
Tuesdays & Wednesday evenings 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm, Saturdays 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.

We are pleased that we have a program, tailor made, for the student who must work a part or full time job in order to make ends meet while attending college. The evening program allows the student to be at home five out of seven nights each week. Our night school Cosmetology program consists of the same classes described in this catalog for a Full-time student and all credits earned in the evening program are transferable to the day program should you decide to transfer. A graduate of this program will have the full range of skills and expertise required to embark on a lifetime career in Cosmetology. All students enrolled in the part-time program are eligible to apply for financial aid. There are several starting dates a year and all starting dates are subject to cancellation if the class size is not adequate. ELECTIVES NESHD offers several electives that vary in hours. Enrolled students may choose to take these electives that are in addition to the overall Cosmetology course. Additional costs will be incurred to cover materials and instruction to the student. Currently the electives offered are: Aroma therapy, Body Contouring, Ear Piercing, Electric File Certification, Gel Nails, Hair Extensions and Sunless Tanning.

PROGRAM OF STUDY

Our program of study is different and unique in many ways.  To insure that students are achieving proficiency in each area, we have set achievement standards for each practical skill.  In this way each student has a clear understanding of what is expected in the categories of speed, skill and coordination.  The academic program utilizes an outstanding library of educational videos and CDs.   Our program covers instruction in practical skills as well as such topics as: hair chemistry and biology, chemical reformation, make-up and skin care, salon retailing and professional relationships.  Our teaching program does not stop here.  Other teaching methods include: guest speakers, technical demonstrations and many small workshops limited to each various skill level.  Our overall approach is to use the training techniques which create interest, motivation and total student involvement.  The school utilizes a comprehensive computerized student management system that is designed to give monthly

feedback to each student regarding their individual progress including grades and attendance as well as their financial records. A significant amount of the student’s training will be done in our student clinic.  After passing the practical skills test, the student is ready to go on to the clinical phase of training.  Here students perfect their skills by practicing on the school’s clientele.  The clinic is supervised by an instructor whose job it is to guide and help each student to produce the best possible style for the client.  Students are informally evaluated after a clinic experience so that the teachers may offer helpful advice.  The student will learn to produce the classic styles, as well as, the hair fashion trends which are prevalent at the time of enrollment.  Upon graduation the student will be eligible to take the licensing exam in NH or VT and will be ready to work as a stylist or to begin additional training to become a Cosmetology teacher.
The course units are divided into quarters.  The following is a general breakdown of each quarter showing the scope of the course:

Freshman Quarter: Hair Analysis, Styling, Treatments, Bacteriology and Sanitation, Hair Cutting, Manicuring/Pedicuring, Skin Care, Personal Leadership, Superfluous Hair Removal, Personal Image, Receptionist/Client Handling, Ethics and State Laws.

Sophomore Quarter: Advanced Hair Cutting, Permanent Waving, Hair Color, Facial Massage/Skin Care, Personal Leadership, Receptionist/Computer Skills, Ethics, State Laws, Business Management and Laboratory Practicals.

Junior Quarter: Hair Color, Skin Care, Ethics, State Laws, Personal Leadership, Business Management, Receptionist/Computer Skills, Laboratory Practicals.

Senior Quarter: Ethics, Personal Leadership, State Laws, Business Management, Receptionist/Computer Skills, Laboratory Practicals, Mock State Boards.
